Phasex (Phase Harmonic Advanced Synthesis EXperiment) est un synthétiseur MIDI expérimental pour Linux / ALSA / JACK avec un moteur de synthèse construit autour d'une modulation de phase et des sources d'oscillateur / LFO flexibles.
Les modulations disponibles sont AM, FM, offset PM, et WAVE.
Phasex est livré avec de types et multiples filtres et modes, une ligne de retard croisée stéréo (stereo crossover delay) et un chorus avec phaser, des enveloppes ADSR pour à la fois l'amplificateur et le filtre, des fonctionnalités de traitement audio temps réel, et plus encore.
Il puise son inspirations d'une variété de synthétiseurs analogiques et numériques MIDI du début des années 80 et 90.

PHASEX is an experimental MIDI softsynth for Linux/ALSA/JACK with a synth engine built around flexible phase modulation and flexible oscillator/LFO sources.
Modulations include AM, FM, offset PM, and wave select. PHASEX comes equipped with multiple filter types and modes, a stereo crossover delay and chorus with phaser, ADSR envelopes for both amplifier and filter, realtime audio input processing capabilities, and more. Inspirations come from a variety of analog and early digital MIDI synthesizers from the '80s and '90s.


Phasex, or Phase Harmonic Advanced Synthesis EXperiment, developed by William Weston, is a virtual synthesizer for the linux platform, and based on the concept of "phase offset modulation." The GUI above shows the entire panel, although it can be selected as two pages, with the oscillator section on the second page. It has both polyphonic and monophonic capabilities. It can be used as a plug-in or standalone.

There are 4 oscillators, each with a series of waveforms. External audio input (such as a second synth, or soundfont player, sampler, etc.) can also be routed as input, modulated through the envelopes, and reproduced as MIDI inputs are received.

All four oscillators, as well as four LFOs, can provide bipolar and unipolar output. Transposition, detuning and pitch bend can be set independently for each oscillator.

Both the amplitude and filter parameters are standard ADSR envelopes.

Chorus, delay and phased chorus effects are located in the lower lefthand area of the interface. Pan and stereo width controls are located on the left side of the GUI.
